HISTORY LIVES IN STORYTELLING

When we know the story is real, that someone lived through the experience, our connection to history is stronger and our future choices wiser.

ABOUT HISTORY LEFT BEHIND

History Left Behind features true, narrative-style US history short stories with a focus on the forgotten moments and the people who lived them. Every detail is based on primary-source historical records and the stories are weaved around those details. This doesn’t mean that each story is infallible because research, eyewitness accounts, journalists, letter-writers, historians, etc., all share a common weakness. Everything was recorded by a human and we humans are far from perfect. That is truly what makes our history so interesting. History is ultimately a documentation of our imperfections.

"History tells us all about the ingredients that went into the soup of life we taste today. When we know what went into the recipe, we can appreciate the ingredients that make us savor life, and we can add the seasonings necessary to balance out the bitter and the sour in our next spoonful."
